Life, Love and Trucking is a Balance: OTA Driver of the Year

Kriska Transport driver Mohamed Elkelouei is a safe, professional truck driver. He’s also a loyal friend, helpful colleague, loving father and husband and dedicated servant to his community.

Those are just some of the reasons Mohamed was named the 2025 OTA-Volvo Trucks Canada Truck Driver of the Year at the OTA’s 99th annual convention in Toronto last night.

“He really does love trucking. He loves it because he sees how it provides for the country; it’s providing for the economy. He stands by what he does, and he takes the job very seriously,” says Guy Broderick, Safety and Training supervisor for Kriska Transportation.

Watch Mohamed’s story of how he came to Canada, excelled in trucking and how he donates his time – and energy (literally) – to various charities:

Mohamed came to Canada from Egypt in 2012. He is a trained accountant, but after a couple of years crunching numbers, he wanted to do something that gave him joy.

“I wanted to change, but I need to change for something I love. In my childhood, I had passion for trucking,” he says. “It not something for work, not something for paycheck. It’s something you’re passionate for, because when you love something, you will give more and more.”

In his eight years as a professional driver, he has amassed over 300,000 collision-free miles.

When he isn’t behind the wheel, Mohamed spends much of his time working out and maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle. He loves to run.

He and his lovely wife Afnan give back by taking part in several marathons for charity around Toronto. In fact, the couple first met at a race and connected through their charitable spirits.

“Charity work is part of our religion. It’s how we grew up. It’s providing what you already have been blessed with, so our blessings are shared with others, and the more you provide the more you get back,” says Afnan. “Balance is a big thing for Mohamed … the way he eats, the way he structures his life, and how he puts his commitment into his job, his heart and soul into it.”
